Infiorata del Corpus Domini

In Italy, the arrival of summer is also heralded by an explosion of colors and scents: it’s the time of the Infiorate, floral carpets that transform the streets into fleeting works of art. Behind every petal, a gesture of devotion. Behind every design, a community coming together to celebrate beauty and faith. Join us in discovering some of the most fascinating places where this uniquely Italian tradition comes to life.
Infiorata di Castelraimondo

Every year, on the feast of Corpus Domini, certain towns in Italy are transformed into open-air art galleries. It's the time of the Infiorata, a tradition deeply rooted in the religious and artistic culture of the country, with its most striking expressions found in many towns across central and southern Italy.

The feast of Corpus Domini, which in 2025 falls on Sunday, June 22, celebrates the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. The Infiorata is its most spectacular tribute: extraordinary floral carpets cover streets and squares, portraying sacred scenes, spiritual symbols, and sometimes references to nature, in a swirl of intense fragrances and breathtaking hues.

Creating these floral masterpieces is a collective effort that involves entire communities. Streets are first carefully prepared with a base of sand or chalk; then, with patience and skill, volunteers and artists craft the designs using petals, leaves, seeds, and other plant materials. It's a gesture of faith, but also one of immense creativity and dedication.

Among the most famous Infiorate are those in Genzano di Roma, Spello, Bolsena, Noto, and Castelraimondo. Each town has its own unique style, colors, and stories to tell through flowers. Every year, thousands of visitors come to admire these ephemeral masterpieces, destined to vanish beneath the steps of the religious procession.

During the solemn Corpus Domini procession, the clergy walks over the flower carpets, carrying the monstrance with the consecrated Host, followed by the faithful in prayerful reflection. It is a moving moment, one that unites art, faith, and community in a celebration both powerful and poetic.

The Infiorata is one of the most evocative events in Italy's cultural and religious calendar—a tradition that touches the heart, engages the senses, and deserves to be experienced at least once in a lifetime.... read more»
