Città della Pieve (PG) celebrates from 20 to 22 October 2023 the precious and prized saffron, the red gold used not only in the kitchen but also for the decoration of fabrics, in cosmetics and in painting. The event will introduce the typical product of this area, with which desserts, cheeses and pasta are prepared.

During the event there will be demonstrations of weaving fabrics and yarns dyed with saffron, an exhibition of lace and embroidery made with the particular Punto Perugino technique, intensive "Punto Perugino" embroidery workshops and painting workshops with the infused spice. And again, visits to the urban saffron grove, experiences of harvesting, processing and drying saffron and dramatized visits for families to discover the secrets of the spice.

What's new in 2023 is the involvement of schools. With the presence of the young people of the C.C.R.R (Municipal Council of Girls and Boys), the pupils of the first classes of the Lower Secondary School of the "Pietro Vannucci" Comprehensive Institute of Città della Pieve who will take part in "Zafferano 500 the saffron in history of Città della Pieve" and the skimming and drying laboratories and the three-year students of the I.I.S. "P.Artusi" of Chianciano Terme who will take care of the tasting of Pievese saffron delicacies at the Rocca Perugina.

During the three days there will then be a screening of the docufilm "On the shores of Perugino" at the Kossuth Space; at the market exhibition at the Cloister of Palazzo Orca we will also have "The spicy heart of Umbria: fresh chillies and spicy sauces" curated by Quintosapore and Rikka Peppers and Ejelo!Card Game – Spazio Gioco with the presentation, on Sunday 22nd, of the new cards of the game "Fior di Zafferano" by Collettivo "Fiaba Cruda".... read more»
