Things to see and do in Conversano

The monuments of the city include the Museco museum complex, the Cathedral, the churches of San Benedetto, Santa Chiara and San Cosma and the Clock Tower of the Municipal Palace. The aspect of the city is dominated by the Castle of Conversano, or Castello Conti Acquaviva D'Aragona, residence of the Counts of Conversano for almost seven centuries, since the Norman era, but of probable earlier origins. A square-based tower, known as the Maestra Tower, and a fresco placed on the vault of the original entrance, depicting Saints Cosma and Damiano, remain today of the original Norman core. Conversano Castle also houses the Paolo Finoglio Civic Art Gallery, in the ancient "picture gallery" of the fourth noble. Of particular interest is the pictorial cycle of the Gerusalemme Liberata created by the painter Paolo Finoglio in the early 1940s.

In November the historic center of Conversano is invaded by the "Novello sotto il Castello" event, in which new wine is the protagonist, but also not only local food and wine, and many cultural and entertainment events.
