Cerreto di Spoleto (PG)

Cerreto di Spoleto is a town in the province of Perugia, in Umbria, which owes its name to the oak forests that grow in the surrounding areas and have ancient origins. Cerreto di Spoleto reached its maximum splendor in the medieval period, opposed by the nearby Norcia and Spoleto. The Castle of Cerreto di Spoleto dates back to this period, built on a pre-existing settlement on the San Sebastiano hill, which is located in a panoramic position, on the crest of a high hill overlooking the confluence of the narrow valleys of Vigi and Nera, which surround it by two sides. The castle of Cerreto culminates in a fortress of which the bell tower that dominates the castle remains.

Do not miss the parish church of Santa Maria Annunziata, which can be accessed from a portal from 1592 open on the left side of the single nave. Wooden sculptures and precious frescoes decorate the interior of the Church.

In Borgo Cerreto there is the Museum of mummies. Borgo Cerreto is located 357 meters above sea level, built during the fifteenth century, at the confluence of the Nera and Vigi rivers.
