As per tradition, on the day of the Epiphany, January 6th, Stria is burned in Recoaro Terme as a good wish for the new year that has just begun.

Stria is the local name of the Befana, a beloved figure in Italian folklore, especially in the Veneto region. Celebrated on the January 6th, she is a kind old witch who is said to fly on her broomstick delivering gifts to children. Legend has it that the Befana visits every household, entering through the chimney to leave candies and small toys for well-behaved children in stockings hung by the fireplace.

Burning the Befana at the stake still symbolizes the past year, ready to be burned and to be reborn as new.

The Rogo de la Stria takes place in Piazza A. Duca d'Aosta at 6.00 pm.
