Umbria, also thanks to its splendid villages that have become a tourist destination par excellence, can offer food and wine tourism experiences of the highest level. Umbrian red wines such as Montefalco Sagrantino are an enviable calling card to present to wine tourists, even more so if they are thought of as an accompaniment to products from the butchery that are famous throughout Italy, and beyond, such as the Umbrian artisan Porchetta.
Destination Montefalco then, in the province of Perugia, which has been included among the most beautiful villages in Italy and which can be defined as the city of wine, Sagrantino, and oil. But there are several areas dedicated to the cultivation of vines that have been able to build a long tradition of high quality wines, think for example of the territory facing Lake Trasimeno where it is possible to taste the Colli del Trasimeno Gamay, produced from a vine of the family of Grenache which also includes Cannonau from Sardinia and red Tai from Veneto.
In short, Umbria, which has always been famous for cities such as Perugia, Assisi and Gubbio, is a region that in the past has perhaps suffered the shadow of nearby Tuscany as a destination for cultural and food and wine tourism, but over time has been able to carve out a space of first plan nationally and internationally becoming an unmissable destination also for wine tourism lovers.
