Itinerario delle Rocche

Itinerario delle Rocche

The most important and significant masterpieces, including fortresses, palaces and fortifications, by the great Sienese architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini are the protagonists of the latest creation by Confcommercio Marche Nord: the Route of the Rocks. And yet another tourism promotion project, within the wider Beauty Itinerary in the province of Pesaro Urbino which includes 12 municipalities: Urbino, Gradara, Pesaro, Fano, Pergola, Fossombrone, Mondavio, Cagli, Gabicce Mare, Terre Roveresche, Sant'Angelo in Vado, Colli al Metauro.

Along the Route of Beauty, the architect built or transformed several buildings for civil and religious use but, above all, fortresses and military fortifications. Many of these have been dismantled, destroyed or few traces remain, such as the ruins of the Rocca di Pergola. Others represent the most significant achievements of Martini's work and his genius: Cagli, Mondavio, Sassocorvaro, Fossombrone as well as, of course, the Ducal Palace in Urbino. In the tourist guide there is also space for the Rocca di Gradara, although in the latter there is no reference to the architect's presence and work.
