Among the typical italian products of the Sardinia region, a spice stands out, saffron, the precious red gold that is part of the local culture and tradition.

The denomination of Saffron of Sardinia PDO is reserved for saffron dried in stigmas or threads that has specific organoleptic characteristics: bright red color given by the crocin content, very intense aroma that derives from the safranal content and strong taste that comes from the picrocrocin content. The production area of Sardinian PDO saffron is included in the province of Southern Sardinia, in particular in the territory of the municipalities of San Gavino Monreale, Turri and Villanovafranca.
