Artifera

ARTIFERA is the invented name conceived for the new project conceived by the Sicilian contemporary art gallery SACCA. It will start at the end of November (28) and foresees the involvement of three co-financing wineries in the creation of a limited edition collection of artist cassettes and an exhibition in the gallery's headquarters (in Pozzallo, Ragusa) with works by five invited artists.

The title is inspired by the adjective vinifero (that which produces wine) also present, in its feminine declination, in the scientific name of the vine (vitis vinifera).
ARTIFERA therefore wants to denote a process that produces art, alluding at the same time to the world of wine. A project conceived and curated by Giovanni Scucces (art historian and journalist) and made possible thanks to the collaboration and synergistic work between his gallery SACCA (Pozzallo), the artists Giuseppe Costa (1980, Palermo / Milan), Marilina Marchica ( 1984, Agrigento), Gabriele Salvo Buzzanca (1986, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto / Venice), Federico Severino (1990, Milan / Catania / Turin), Giuseppe Vassallo (1990, Palermo) and the Di Giovanna wineries (Contessa Entellina and Sambuca di Sicily), Frasca (Modica) and Quignones (Licata).

With ARTIFERA, therefore, art meets wine in a collection of limited edition artist cassettes (25 or 35 copies per type + 5 pda) made up of art multiples taken up with manual interventions by the artists and numbered by them. signed. A wooden box containing two precious bottles from each cellar, precious and at the same time accessible to all, designed for lovers of the finest art and good wine. Each work is made on a removable wooden lid so that it will be possible to exhibit it together with the box or separately (with or without frame). An edition that will certainly not escape the collectors of art and those of wine.

There are numerous testimonies that reach us on the "nectar of the gods", dating back to a few millennia before Christ. Various attestations come to us from Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and various citations are present in classical literature and in the Holy Scriptures. And how can we forget the many representations provided by some of the greatest artists of all time relating to wine and its god, Bacchus (or Dìoniso for the Greeks). Furthermore, the vine (and consequently the wine) is a plant present in all continents (excluding Antarctica for obvious climatic reasons), so we like to think that it is something "universal" as it is, without a doubt, the art.... read more»

Each artist acted according to their own taste and style, in total freedom, far from the idea of proposing "didactic" works. Involving the world of wine and wineries was a way to acknowledge the trend that in recent years sees the combination of the art sector with that of enology (and more generally a way to make manifest the benefit that can be obtained from the union between companies and art), as well as to follow up on the idea of SACCA itself, that is, to unite more heterogeneous realities to create contamination and unexpected relationships.

And precisely this happened with ARTIFERA5 artists and 3 wineries, under the guidance of the gallery, have set up a new project that will flow into an exhibition-event in which some works by the artists involved will be exhibited, together with the unique works and multiples that have come out of it. In addition, the wines from each winery chosen for the project will also be presented on the opening evening.

Combining contemporary art and wine can represent a further way to promote artistic culture and the territory in a new, different way, also enhancing the art of our time, bringing it into everyday life and in more familiar environments, in order to avoid excessive self-reference. and also reach those who are not only accustomed to frequent the places assigned to it. In this way, a real public awareness process is implemented. A transversal and heterogeneous audience attentive to quality, be it found in a work of art or in a wine.

Appointment set for Sunday 28 November at 5 pm at the SACCA gallery in Pozzallo for the vernissage of the exhibition and the presentation of the artist's boxes and matching wines.
