Villa Torreggiani

Villa Torreggiani

Torreggiani winery in Virle Treponti (Rezzato), on the eastern outskirts of Brescia, can welcome you in a villa rich in history, like its cellar. Born on the ancient foundations of the Treponti Castle, Villa Torreggiani is a precious example of a house-museum with a unique style.

The house-museum is divided into several rooms, beautifully decorated. These include the staircase designed by Vantini, the Entrance Hall, the Hall of Honor and the room used as the Museum of the Battle of Treponti. Also of great interest is the bunker of the Second World War, among the best preserved air raid shelters in Italy, and the war room of the Nazi SS, which preserves artifacts related to the period in which the building was the seat of the Directorate of General Affairs of the Republic of Salò. (from October 1943 to April 25, 1945).

The villa is surrounded by over 10,000 square meters of garden and boasts several raised spaces, including the largest terrace in Brescia.

One of the oldest wineries in the world

Villa Torreggiani houses inside the wine cellar dating back to 1408, awarded by the President of the Republic as the oldest active company in Brescia and the fourteenth longest in our country. There is also a refining barrel room and a vault with historic wines dating back to the 1800s. The cellar produces red wines; the vines are grown on Montenetto, in the land of Capriano del Colle.

History

After having been a military complex for years, in 1882 it was transformed into a villa based on a project by the Massardi family, also in charge of the construction of the Altare della Patria in Rome. This aspect contributed to defining the villa definitively: for the new architecture, marbles discarded from the imposing Roman construction were used, together with structural and artistic elements of various styles, from Victorian eclecticism to imperial neoclassicism to Liberty. The result is still visible today and perfectly preserved: a decidedly singular building and at the same grandiose and noble.
