Among the most beautiful routes that can be followed in Agrigento, that of the Valley of the Temples stands out. The archaeological park of the Valley of the Temples is among the most popular tourist destinations in Sicily, as well as being the symbol of the city of Agrigento and one of the largest archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. The Valley of the Temples corresponds to the ancient Greek city Akragas and consists of the remains of eleven Doric temples from the Hellenic period. Since 1997 it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
