Cusano Mutri (BN)

Charming stone village in the province of Benevento which opens its doors to the Samnite area of Matese, on the border between Campania and Molise, is perched on a rocky spur. The historic center of Cusano Mutri, typically medieval, still retains all its original charm characterized by narrow streets, arcades and houses with portals and windows in worked stone. The middle door, consisting of a simple stone architrave, stands on the steps of via vicinato Lungo and once divided the medieval town from the part of the fifteenth-century expansion.

Cusano Mutri was included in the guide of "The most beautiful villages in Italy".

In Piazza Lago you can still see the ruins of the castle, which was destroyed by a popular uprising in the 18th century. Not far away is the Santagata palace, a convent of the Augustinians until 1997 and now being restored to be used as a museum.
