Just like in the wardrobe of the Chronicles of Narnia, there exist in Oltrepò Pavese, a short distance from the main communication arteries, magical and secret places where trees, animals, landscape and geology combine to create an enchanted and timeless dimension, in which it seems It is really possible to touch what the Romantics defined as the Infinite. One of these places is certainly the one crossed by the Secular Chestnut Trail, a route that winds along the ridge between the valley of the Staffora torrent and that of the Rile, just above the medieval village of Nazzano.

Along this path, the Calyx association organizes a nature excursion immersed in a rural landscape of times gone by, where small peasant villages with classic stone houses alternate with areas of uncontaminated woods and panoramic floors with 360 degree views of the Alps and Apennines. The itinerary will allow the observation of particular geological formations, such as the Cadezzano ravine and the Gomo geosite, as well as the discovery of the plant essences that make up the varied woods of the area. Along the route it will also be possible to observe the footprints of many ungulates present in the area and study numerous species of birds, listening to their calls and observing their flight.

Halfway, in a panoramic area on the Gomo plateau, we will stop for a reading of the landscape and for a hearty snack on the lawn based on typical products, recipes from the Staffora Valley and local wines curated by the organization. The excursion, led by a local guide specialized in ecotourism, will take place on a dirt road.

Rules for the containment of African Swine Fever: ASF is a virus that only affects pigs, particularly wild boars, and is currently present throughout the Ligurian-Lombardy Apennines. It is not dangerous for humans or pets, which however can be vehicles of transmission through trampling. To contain the virus, disinfection of the soles of trekking shoes is required before and after the excursion with sodium hypochlorite disinfectant (e.g. Amuchina) to be left on for 30 minutes.
