Lessini Durello

"Lessini" is a hilly region between Vicenza and Verona, in Veneto, northen Italy. Lessini Durello is a "DOC" production area that takes its name from the autochthonous grape "Durello". It is an excellent area also for cheese production, olive oil, cherries and chestnuts. If you visit "Lessinia" in Fall time, don't miss the "Chestnuts Festival" of Durlo, that takes place every year during the 3rd weekend of October. You can reach Durlo from the motorway exit of Montecchio Maggiore following the directions to Arzignano, Chiampo and then Crespadoro.
Lessini Durello Doc is one of the best Italian sparkling wines, produced both with the traditional method (champenoise) and with the Charmat method.
This area is also perfect for trekking and bike rides. Don't miss the Fossils museum in Bolca, one of the most interesting site for marine fossils in the world.
If you want to taste the Lessini Durello wines and some dishes based on the local typical products, a good place is the "Enoteca di Roncà" (in Roncà, province of Verona), wine shop and restaurant.
For an excellent cuisine with seasonal food another good choice is certainly the "Laita" (www.laita.it), a few kilometers far from Crespadoro.
