Oltrepo Pavese

Hilly region of Lombardy in the south of the PO river, between the region of Emilia Romagna and Piedmont, and not too far from Liguria, is one of three areas (along with Trentino Alto Adige and Franciacorta) most suitable for the cultivation of the noblest red grapes, the Pinot Noir. Indeed, it was here that in early 1900 when some  sparkling wine companies began its cultivation and wine making in Italy.

The Oltrepò Pavese is a fantastic territory whith amazing landscapes and big culinary traditions. The original culinary productions of the region are multiple, such as cheese like Grana Padano Dop and Pamigiano Reggiano Dop, Provolone Valpadana and Quartirolo lombardo, sausages, like the Salame di Varzi Dop, but also mushrooms, truffles, honey, traditional bread like the Pane di San Contardo, and cakes.

The Via Francigena, Castles, Villages, medieval towers, natural parks, thermae and, of course, the landscapes of Oltrepò Pavese: so many reasons to visit this area.
