Tenimenti d’Alessandro is a historic company in Cortona surrounded by vineyards, an ideal place to spend relaxing moments, immersed in beauty.
Within the company there is Creta Osteria, a contemporary, refined and informal restaurant, which stands out for the attention and care of the raw material and the intimacy of the arrangement of the spaces.
It is possible to stay inside the Borgo Syrah Resort, where a skilful renovation has created a few spacious accommodations surrounded by greenery from the ancient farm, where you can enjoy a spa, swimming pool and privacy.
History
The history of Tenimenti d’Alessandro is closely linked to that of Cortona and its rebirth as a place of excellent wine production.
Located in Manzano, in the municipality of Cortona (Arezzo), in south-eastern Tuscany, the property - which today covers about 30 hectares of vineyards, in organic management certified since 2016 - was purchased in 1967 by the Alessandro family.
Since the late 1980s, a phase of intense experimentation has begun here, aimed, above all, at identifying those vines capable of giving the best qualitative results.
The extraordinary vocation of this area for Syrah immediately emerges. The great Rhône vine, adapting well to warm, bright and dry environments and sedimentary deposits of Pliocene origin - clays, sands, silts - has found here a way to express itself with its own strong identity. All of this materialized in 1993 with the first vintage of Il Bosco, a pure Syrah that quickly became the company's symbolic wine and one of the most popular in Italy and around the world.
We soon realized the potential for adaptation and the originality of another variety of the Rhone, this time, a white grape: Viognier which, since 1991, has occupied an increasingly important place in the company's vineyards.
From 2013, a new course: the Calabresi family, already a partner of the Alessandro brothers since 2007, takes over the leadership of the company.
The values of today
At the helm of the winery, Filippo Calabresi put his apprenticeship on Syrah to good use, which took place in close contact with many vignerons in France, California and Oregon, after studying at the International Wine Center in New York.
Filippo realizes his idea of Syrah and Viognier since the countryside, where he works organically with care, excluding synthetic products and aiming for the well-being and balance of the plant. The total absence of compromises and the artisan care also concern the cellar. Here, the commitment is aimed at enhancing the local identity of the vines, without ever forgetting drinkability. Therefore, there are two guidelines pursued: to preserve fruit and freshness in wines intended for daily consumption, through the use of steel containers only; and underline the complexity and evolutionary capacity of the selections, thanks to the introduction of techniques that look to the winemaking tradition of the Northern Rhône Valley, such as the use of stalks, the "submerged cap" technique and slow refinements in old wooden containers
