Casola Valsenio (RA)

Casola Valsenio, in the province of Ravenna, on the hills of the "Terre di Faenza" is a charming village in the upper Senio Valley, close to that part of the province of Florence that borders the Adriatic side of the Apennines. The vocation of Casola Valsenio is in those officinal herbs that were already collected in the uncultivated, dried and sold in the early 1900s and of which in 1938 the young Augusto Rinaldi Ceroni began to experiment with their cultivation. An experiment that grew up to become, in 1974, a real botanical garden specialized in medicinal plants, where more than 400 varieties of herbs are grown on over 4 hectares. Today the “Augusto Rinaldi Ceroni” Herb Garden represents an important point of reference for the whole scientific world and for those who deal with these plants for work or pleasure. It is equipped with a documentation center, laboratories and olfactory library; offers educational itineraries, guided tours, qualified consultancy. You can buy plants, seeds and derived products or stroll along the beautiful cultivated steps, breathing in a magical and fragrant atmosphere.

Thanks to the presence of the Giardino delle Erbe and the numerous initiatives that have sprung up over the years around the cultivation of aromatic herbs, a culture of these plants has been consolidated in Casola Valsenio, which has led to the definition of Casola as the "Land of Forgotten Herbs and Fruits. ".

A visit to the Herb Garden is a must, perhaps on the occasion of the "Lavender Day" or "Herbs in Bloom".

Among the traditional events in Casola Valsenio, on April 25 of each year, there is the Spring Festival and the Segavecchia Thought and Rogo Carts Festival, while on the following Saturday the evocative parade of floats takes place at night.

The festival dedicated to Forgotten Fruits takes place every second and third weekend of October.
