Candelara (PU)

Candelara (PU)

Candelara is a small fraction of the municipality of Pesaro, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region. It is located 7 km from Pesaro and stands on a hill 180 meters above sea level, surrounded by small valleys, oak woods, scrub, vines and olive trees.

From Candelara you can enjoy a splendid 360 ° panorama, which ranges from the sea (from Ravenna to Ancona) to the Apennines with the profile of the mountains: the Catria, the Nerone, the Carpegna. The view of Pesaro and the sea is very impressive even at night.

The castle is accessed from the small square of Borgo S. Lucia through a brick bridge which in the 1500s replaced the wooden drawbridge. Of particular interest on the right of the entrance is the recently restored clock tower, of which you can admire all the ancient mechanisms in perfect working order.

A characteristic event organized in this village, from the last week of November until the night of Santa Lucia, is Candele a Candelara, the first event dedicated to wax flames. Do not miss the expected shutdowns of the electricity that, twice a day, leave the village illuminated only by the light of candles.
