Campello sul Clitunno (PG)

Campello sul Clitunno is a town in the province of Perugia, in Umbria, made up of 13 hamlets scattered throughout the territory, where the two castles of Campello Alto and Pissignano Alto stand out. We also find the sources of the Clitunno river and, not far away, the Tempietto del Clitunno, one of the most interesting late ancient monuments of Umbria. In addition to the aforementioned castles of Campello Alto and Pissignano Alto, not far from the new route of the Flaminia road, among the woods of the territory of Campello sul Clitunno there are also those of Agliano and Acera, towards the Valnerina. Campello sul Clitunno is part of the National Association of Oil Cities.

Things to see and do in Campello sul Clitunno

In addition to the castles and the Tempietto del Clitunno, which since 2011 is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site together with other sites dating back to the Lombards, Campello sul Clitunno is famous for some food and wine excellences, starting with its extra virgin olive oil . Between July and August in the hamlet of Spina di Campello sul Clitunno there is a party with truffles and typical Umbrian products, the "Festival of truffles and typical products". Goose sauce; pecorino, meat-based main courses such as lamb, scottadito, sausages and offal; all accompanied by traditional sweets such as rock, tozzetti and crescionda and the best Umbrian wines, starting with the red of Montefalco.

In Spina the parish church dedicated to SS. Marco and Lorenzo, probably built in the 15th century and with a gabled structure, which preserves the evocative paintings of an anonymous painter from the first half of the 18th century.
