Bobbio is a town in the province of Piacenza, in the Trebbia valley, in Emilia-Romagna. Fortified village from the 4th century, Castrum Bobium, its history is identified with that of the Abbey of San Colombano, founded in 614. During the High Middle Ages Bobbio, as it was later Montecassino, was one of the most important European cultural centers, reference for his library of the Scriptorium of Bobbio, connected with the various monasteries scattered in Italy and abroad. The territories controlled by the monastic fief of Bobbio reach as far as Liguria and Tuscany, Monferrato and Langhe to go as far as Turin and also including other small fiefs scattered throughout northern Italy.
