Castello di Alvito (FR)

Alvito is an Italian town in the province of Frosinone, in Lazio, located in the Comino valley, on the border with Abruzzo. It is part of the national park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise and of the Comino Valley mountain community.

The town develops at 738 m a.s.l. on the southern slope of Mount Morrone, overlooking the underlying Comino Valley.

Its fraction Castello di Alvito is a medieval village that develops around the Cantelmo di Alvito castle, an ancient fortress of the Comino valley located on the top of a hill overlooking the plain of Alvito. Since the nineties it has been owned by the Municipality of Alvito, which is reconstructing it in the parts that were destroyed, and to reconsolidate what is left, to promote cultural meetings and social events.

For some years in the autumn the village of Castello has also hosted "PolenTiAmo", a gastronomic and cultural event aimed at enhancing a typical dish of the area.
