The Quintana of Ascoli Piceno, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region, traditionally takes place with two events: on the second Saturday of July (at night) for the Quintana in honor of the Madonna della Pace, and on the first Sunday of August (in the early afternoon) for the one in honor of the city's patron saint, Saint Emidio.
Its origins are rooted in the Middle Ages, with statutes dating back to the 1200s. Since 1954, this historical reenactment has regained its identity. Initially, there was only one annual celebration, but since the 1980s, there have been two events: the second Saturday of July (at night) for the Quintana in honor of the Madonna della Pace and the first Sunday of August (in the early afternoon) for the one in honor of Saint Emidio.
A picturesque procession in medieval costumes, with over 1,200 participants, parades through the streets of the city, ending at the Campo dei Giochi where the exciting equestrian joust takes place. In this event, the six city districts (Piazzarola, Porta Maggiore, Porta Romana, Porta Solestà, Porta Tufilla, and Sant'Emidio) compete for the coveted Palio of the Quintana.
