The Chestnut Festival of Soriano nel Cimino is a historical commemorative event that has renewed its appointment for more than 50 years in the month of October.
The Historical Reenactment is the most evocative event of the Chestnut Festival and evokes, with a series of scenic paintings, the main historical events that occurred in Soriano from the 13th to the 15th century. 350 years to tell in 4 districts, 800 participants, a wealth of decorations and gastronomic delights inspired by medieval and Renaissance culinary traditions. All rigorously judged by expert judges. And of course, roasted chestnuts distributed for free in the district taverns.
Swordsmen, flag-wavers, drummers, musicians, and falconers will show off their art among the alleys and buildings. The medieval dance group will delight the eyes of visitors. San Giorgio, La Rocca, Trinità and Papacqua, the four districts, will compete for the Palio, and it will be a party!
The gastronomic aspect plays a fundamental role. The taverns of the districts will move you with the delicacies that will dominate the table. Among the dishes, chestnuts are used in soups, side dishes and desserts: soup with chickpeas and chestnuts, beef stew with chestnuts, wild boar stew, polenta with sausage, strozzapreti, chestnut roll and chestnut jam. There will also be gnocchi con il ferro, a typical local dish.
