In Castelvetere sul Calore, a characteristic village in the province of Avellino, in August comes the event dedicated to the traditional Irpinia pasta format: the Sagra della Maccaronara, a gastronomic event organized by the Pro Loco of Castelvetere sul Calore and among the oldest in Irpinia.
This is one of the longest-running gastronomic events of the Irpinia summer, which animates the village located in the province of Avellino for two days. The festival is organized by the local Pro-Loco Association of Castelvetere sul Calore with the patronage of the Municipality of Castelvetere sul Calore and will involve, as per tradition, the entire town that, once again, gathers around one of the most characteristic symbols of the area.
Maccaronara is, in fact, the main typical product of Castelvetere sul Calore.
It is a type of pasta made strictly by hand, whose mixture of water and flour is worked until it gives it the right consistency and then cut into a shape similar to that of a large spaghetti. Seasoned with sauce or beans, it is prepared following the traditional methods handed down for generations.
The Sagra della Maccaronara in Castelvetere sul Calore is dedicated to this extraordinary dish and will welcome, in the shadow of the ancient castle, visitors and passionate gourmets, eager to spend unforgettable moments in one of the most evocative settings of the green Irpinia.
