The Rice Festival returns to Isola della Scala, in the province of Verona, celebrating Italian rice, particularly Nano Vialone Veronese I.G.P. rice, the first in Europe to receive Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status in 1996.
Each year, the festival, held between September and October, attracts around 500,000 visitors to the small town of 11,000 residents, with over 500,000 rice-based dishes served.
During the event—featuring stands, culinary contests, and tastings—visitors can sample around a hundred different rice recipes. It's not just about risotto; bread, pasta, gnocchi, pizza, and desserts made with the world's most famous grain are also featured.
