Fiera di Sant’Agata - Genova

Where: Liguria / Genova

In the San Fruttuoso district of Genoa, the traditional Fiera di Sant'Agata takes place on the first Sunday of February. Over 600 stalls will be set up in the streets of the delegation, with something for all tastes. You can find artisanal products, gastronomic delicacies and even objects, plants and flowers and much more.

The feast of Sant'Agata originated with the advent of Christianity, established to discredit the pagan fertility rites that followed the days of the Blackbird. The feast also wanted to encourage the veneration of Sant'Agata, one of the most beloved saints in the Catholic tradition.
In the Middle Ages, farmers and breeders gathered in the valley for the Fair and for the occasion merchants came from distant places to do business and buy seeds.
Even today it is one of the most important fairs in northern Italy, linked to the traditions of the past and where it is possible to taste culinary specialties from every part of Italy.
