Itinerary details
A bike ride in the hills south of Montefalco, in the places of production of the famous Sagrantino, starting and arriving in the town known as "the railing of Umbria", due to its elevated and panoramic position.
The route is just over 7 kilometers long, which can be covered in less than an hour at a slow pace, or in about twenty minutes, if you choose to go by car.
The itinerary starts and arrives, in fact, in the medieval town of Montefalco, from Piazza del Municipio, to descend along via Ringhiera Umbra; at number 6, there is the Church of San Francesco, now the Municipal Art Gallery, with notable works, including a Nativity by Perugino.
Continue along the road until you leave the town, through Porta della Rocca, then go down, leaving the hamlet of Camiano Piccolo on your right and passing through Camiano Grande.
Continue along the road until you reach Turri and then Poggio Turri, the locality where the Poggio Turri winery is located, an agritourism farm with an adjoining winery which produces, among others, Sagrantino di Montefalco Docg, also in the Passito version, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
After Poggio Turi, there is Località San Fortunato: on the left of the road we are traveling on, stands the Romanelli Agricultural Company, whose production includes Sagrantino di Montefalco Docg, Sagrantino Passito Docg, Montefalco Rosso Doc, Grappa di Sagrantino and Extra Virgin Olive Oil Biological; the company also offers tastings, guided wine tours and lunches based on typical products.
A little further on, turn right to go up towards Montefalco.
With a detour of a couple of kilometers to the left, just before reaching the center of Montefalco, you arrive at the Antonelli S. Marco winery, where Montefalco Doc Rosso, Sagrantino di Montefalco Docg, Sagrantino di Montefalco Docg Passito and Extra Virgin Olive Oil are produced. Organic Olive; here, moreover, it is possible to take guided tours, tastings and even cooking lessons, with typical local products, to create traditional dishes.
